Dr. Bill's curiosity led him to explore the potential of new charred oak barrels in enhancing Glenmorangie's delicate, fruity spirit. He handpicked a selection of bespoke casks, meticulously crafted to enrich the distillery's single malt. By subjecting these virgin wood casks to charring for the first time, he aimed to create a distinct style of single malt characterized by intense color and spiciness.
The majority of these early casks were allocated to the wood-finishing process, where their spiciness harmonized with Glenmorangie's intricate fruity notes. However, displaying the vision of a true innovator, he filled a small number of these casks with new-make spirit, envisioning the creation of an extraordinary single malt.
These experimental new char casks were left to mature in a cool, earth-floored warehouse for over two decades. During this extended aging period, the spirit within underwent a delightful transformation, evolving into a lusciously buttery whisky imbued with flavors of vanilla, chocolate infused with hints of orange, nuances of ginger, and a touch of sweet chili.
Dr. Bill was exhilarated by the spicy depths achieved in this groundbreaking experiment. Contemplating how to complement the whisky's unique flavor profile, he embarked on a journey to harmonize Glenmorangie's delicacy with the robust, toasty qualities of the whisky. Initially, he layered the oaky nuances with the soft, fruity character of Glenmorangie matured in first-fill bourbon casks. Subsequently, he introduced sweet subtlety by incorporating a portion of whisky finished in oloroso sherry casks.
After a patient aging period of 23 years, the resulting creation radiates with ripe fruits, rich orange chocolate, and subtle undertones of sugared almonds and spice. Exceptionally dynamic and vibrant, Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1998 elevates the distillery's renowned elegance with a splendid and spicy brilliance.

Then comes a suggestion of orange-flavoured chocolate, clove, ginger and aniseed.Finish: Gentle and soothing with hints of sugared almonds, leather and dates.

Its aromatic profile is characterized by a delightful interplay of sweet and floral notes, with hints of roses, carnations, coriander, as well as vibrant scents of orange, pear, and creamy vanilla gracing the nose. On the palate, this exceptional whisky unfolds with flavors of zesty oranges and lemons, complemented by the richness of vanilla fudge, the warmth of ground ginger and cinnamon, a touch of oak spice, and a subtle undercurrent of marzipan.

Master Distiller Billy Walker's statement, "Each batch produced of The GlenAllachie's 10-year-old Cask Strength whiskey reflects the distillery's evolving direction," sets the stage for the ninth iteration of this esteemed decade-old release. It continues the tradition, highlighting the intricate richness of the distillery's honeyed spirit following maturation in select oak casks.
With more than five decades of experience and a deep-rooted passion for wood management, Billy Walker meticulously curated Batch 9 for perfection. This exceptional blend draws from Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry casks, along with Rioja barriques and American Virgin Oak barrels toasted to a medium char. This mahogany-hued malt proudly stands alongside its predecessors, offering the timeless Sherried notes of sumptuous dark chocolate and dried fruits, harmonized with sweet spices and red berries. It's a prized release to be savored.
Batch 9 is bottled at its natural cask strength of 58.1%, without undergoing chill-filtration or having any added color.

Batch 3 of the Virgin Oak Series unveils a mahogany-hued malt enriched with spicy, treacly flavors, a result of its maturation in hogsheads crafted from Spanish Oak (Quercus Robur). This wood originates from the regions of Galicia and Asturias, specifically harvested in the cool, humid climate of the Cantabrian Mountains.
The oak was meticulously air-dried for approximately 18 months, followed by toasting and charring to a medium level. This process allowed our complex spirit to intricately interact with the oak, extracting its unique cask character. The secondary aging in these virgin casks further deepened the whisky's mahogany color and contributed to a palate teeming with dried fruits, maraschino cherries, and subtle hints of stem ginger.
This exquisite whisky is bottled at 48% alcohol by volume, with its natural color preserved, and it remains non-chill filtered, adhering to the commitment to authenticity.
Tasting Note by GlenAllachie:Nose: Lashings of orchard fruits, baking spices and sticky toffee pudding, with notes of brown sugar, glazed cherries and citrus.Palate: Bursting with chocolate, coffee and heather honey, followed by notes of pepper, ginger and molasses, with banana and sultanas on the finish.
In Batch 3 of their Virgin Oak Series, The GlenAllachie proudly presents a rare single malt that underwent an additional maturation process in casks crafted from Scottish Sessile Oak (Quercus Petrae), sourced from the Atlantic coast. Handling Scottish oak proves challenging throughout the entire production process, from growth and milling to coopering. Due to its rarity, costliness, and tendency to form knots, it is an infrequently chosen wood for whisky maturation.
Before being filled with whisky, the wood underwent an extensive 36-month air-drying period, followed by a medium-level toasting and charring process. Despite the inherent difficulties, this coveted oak variety imparts luxurious notes of blonde chocolate, accompanied by hints of zesty orange and velvety toffee, resulting in a truly distinctive and indulgent drinking experience.

For The GlenAllachie Wine Cask Series, Master Blender Billy Walker initiated the process by expertly maturing their spirit in the finest American oak ex-Bourbon barrels before transferring the whisky into carefully chosen European wine barriques for a secondary aging phase. Adding a unique twist to this release, Billy blended four exceptional wine cask finishes to create a distinctive expression: The Cuvée Wine Cask Finish.

Similarly, their 9-year-old Cuvée represents a harmonious marriage of spirits from several esteemed wine casks sourced from renowned regions like Bordeaux, Languedoc, and Valpolicella.
Billy meticulously monitored the character development of each individual barrique, skillfully blending the whiskies together. The resulting golden liquid reveals notes of elegant stone fruits, hints of toasted almonds, and a lively touch of zesty orange peel on the palate.

Uigeadail, a name that evokes imagery of an enigmatic, shadowed space, is derived from the Gaelic words signifying "a dark, mysterious place." It pays homage to the distillery's very life source, its water.
Drawing from the peat-rich waters of Loch Uigeadail, this whisky is an enchanting blend of sweetness, spice, and profound smokiness. The loch's water bestows upon the whisky its distinctive smoky overtones, setting the stage for a tantalizing dance of flavors. Aging in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks adds layers of warmth and richness, making it an ideal companion for tempestuous, storm-filled nights.
However, the true allure of Ardbeg Uigeadail lies in its specialized vatting technique. This method masterfully intertwines the smoky depths from ex-bourbon American oak casks with the sweet, full-bodied charm of ex-sherry Oloroso casks. It's this harmonious union that crafts a whisky of unparalleled depth and character.

The Ardbeg Distillery, while renowned for its distinguished spirits, is also famed for its location. Recognised by both the rugged locals and the more delicately attired visitors, the distillery often endures gusty winds, relentless rain, and ghostly mists. However, its potential onslaught by nature's fierce moods is mitigated by the protective embrace of the Mull of Oa.
Serving as a natural barrier, the Mull of Oa stands tall, sheltering the distillery from the Atlantic's formidable wrath. It is this geographical marvel that inspires the creation of Ardbeg An Oa.
Mirroring the roundness of its geographical muse, Ardbeg An Oa's character is noticeably rounded and mellow. This unique character is shaped by its time in the distillery's innovative Gathering Vat. Here, a blend of diverse whiskies from varied cask types - ranging from the sweetness of Pedro Ximenez and the spiciness of Virgin charred oak to the depth of ex-bourbon casks - come together. As they meld, they produce a whisky that's a harmonious blend of Ardbeg's signature peat, dark chocolate, and aniseed, cushioned in velvety butterscotch, black pepper, and clove. The resulting experience is a powerful, evolving symphony of flavors.
