Octomore 10.3 6 Year Old

No reviews

James Brown, a farmer, has brought home the Octomore 10.3, which was distilled in 2013 from the 2012 crop. In order to mix an exploration of the terroir of Islay with stratospheric smoke, he accepts the challenge of producing Islay Barley and steel himself for the rainy and wild west coast circumstances.
The.3 is aged for six years for the first time, but critically, exclusively in ex-American oak. This Octomore spirit has been delicately coaxed into life in Warehouse 16 adjacent to our 10.1 edition by these premium casks. Since the ingredients in our 10.1 and 10.3 are so comparable, the differential flavour variations must be due to the different regions where the barley was grown.

Tasting Note by Bruichladdich
Nose: Earthy peat smoke, dry and a little medicinal, lemon drops, and thyme come through and then marine, sea shell notes along with some vanilla and fudge from the oak.
Palate: Salt on the lips and more honey and lemon on the palate, then the peat sweeps in with the oak and heat from the high strength. Deeper flavours from the spirit, pear and gooseberry are more defined and richer.
Finish: Sweet on the finish initially with pastry and chocolate but then bitter notes of rubbery smoke and spice towards the end.
