    Description

The Glendalough team embarked on a unique venture, finishing their exquisite Irish single malt whiskey in Japanese Mizunara oak casks. This seven-year-old expression initially matured in American oak bourbon casks before its transfer to the rare Mizunara casks. Crafting with Mizunara wood can be challenging for coopers, but the outcome is a whiskey that unveils a delightful array of fragrant and intricate notes.

    Tasting Note by Glendalough:
Nose: Milk chocolate, vanilla pod, orange zest, and sandalwood.
Palate: there are still aromas of chocolate along with toasted cinnamon and five-spice as well as ripe apricot and nectarines.
Finish: Brown sugar, lemon peel, anise, and flaky pastry.

    An interesting whiskey.

After sampling this whiskey at a tasting I just had to purchase a bottle. The nose and taste were amazing and the influence of the one year’s extra maturation in Mizunara wood was very much in evidence. I must also commend JPHA for the efficient customer service and fast dispatch.
