Description

In the creation of this exceptional whisky, the distillery begins by harvesting the silky and fruity spirit from its iconic giraffe-high stills. This spirit undergoes a lengthy maturation process within American oak casks, spanning no less than 15 years. After this initial aging, a portion of the spirit is carefully transferred into Oloroso sherry casks, where it continues to mature for an additional three years.

Once a total of 18 years have passed, these meticulously crafted components are reunited to give birth to a whisky characterized by a warm and harmonious balance of sweet, floral richness. The palate is graced with opulent marmalade flavors, intermingled with hints of honey, fig, and nuances of caramelized orange. In the background, a distant whisper of campfire smoke adds a layer of complexity to this exceptional expression.

Tasting Note by Glenmorangie:
Nose: Rich, rounded and sweet with dried fruit and a complex floral fragrance.
Palate: A balance between honey, malt and flowery notes. Rich figs and dates emerge with a hint of wood smoke in the background.
Finish: Long and enticing with the sweetness of dried fruit and subtle dryness of Oloroso nuttiness.

Glenmorangie Distillery: Pursuit of Perfection in the Highlands

Glenmorangie Distillery, nestled on the tranquil shores of the Dornoch Firth in the Scottish Highlands, is celebrated for its relentless pursuit of perfection in single malt Scotch whisky. Founded in 1843, the distillery is known for its tall copper pot stills, which are the tallest in Scotland, allowing for a purer and more refined spirit. Glenmorangie whiskies are renowned for their smooth and elegant character, with a delicate balance of floral, fruity, and creamy notes. The distillery takes pride in its dedication to quality, using only the finest hand-selected oak casks for maturation. Glenmorangie's commitment to innovation is evident in its pioneering use of different cask finishes, resulting in a diverse range of expressions that continue to captivate whisky connoisseurs worldwide.

The Unique Tall Stills of Glenmorangie Distillery

What sets Glenmorangie Distillery apart and makes it truly unique is its tall copper pot stills, known as the "Glenmorangie Eight." These stills stand at an impressive height of 5.14 meters (over 16 feet), making them the tallest in Scotland. The height of the stills allows for a longer distillation process, resulting in a lighter and purer spirit. The tall stills enable only the finest vapors to rise to the top, leaving impurities behind, and capturing the delicate floral and fruity characteristics of the malted barley. This slow and precise distillation contributes to the smooth and refined nature of Glenmorangie whiskies. Additionally, the distillery's commitment to using only the finest oak casks for aging ensures that the spirit develops harmoniously, showcasing a complexity of flavors. Glenmorangie's unique combination of tall stills and innovative cask finishes has cemented its reputation as a Highland gem, delivering whiskies of unparalleled quality and depth.
